About My Work
I work in clay because of the permanence it offers. It is a
strong medium that will last for generations. As a
collector of vintage pottery, I have always been curious about the creators of the pieces I collect. Relating to each piece collected, I feel a connection with its creator. I aspire to have my pieces connect with people in this permanent way.
My original designs are inspired by the beauty of nature. My work process is in keeping with the tradition of the Arts & Crafts Movement. I am involved with every part of the creative process.
For the very dimensional tile pieces, a clay model is made and from that model, a mold is poured. For the more delicate images, a design is carved directly onto a plaster blank. Each tile is then pressed, one at a time, from the mold. After the
first firing the tiles are decorated with rich, hand-mixed glazes and fired at least once again. Each stoneware tile is presented in a custom hardwood frame. My intention is to create each tile as lasting piece of art that will grace the home of the collector for many years to come.
